John, Steven and David were born and raised in Brooklyn, New York in the 1950’s. As young boys living on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, the main shopping district in the area, the boys worked for all the local merchants at an early age. Working for the local famous specialty fruit stores, butcher shops, German Deli, Italian Pork Store and even a pizzeria, they were unknowingly apprenticing for what was coming.
They continued to work through High School and College. In 1980 an idea to start their own business struck and a Brooklyn Legend was born. A&J; Food Store, an Italian Deli and Grocery Store on Fulton Street began to flourish, followed by the Fulton Street Farmers Market.
In 1982 the boys took our Fairway Food Market, a business previously owned by brothers Sal and Danny which began in 1960. Through a main expansion and remodeling, the store is clean modern and fully stocked with top quality foods that John, Steve and David are famous for selling.
The store is a customer friendly business with many family members on site at all times to keep things running smoothly. After 27 years the boys know most of their customers by name. To quote Davie, “I never feel like I am at work, I feel like I’m with family.” in keeping the tradition that continues.
